Obituary

NEW BEDFORD -- David B. MacLeod, 58, of Westport died unexpectedly Friday, July 2, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of Dorothy (Booth) MacLeod of New Bedford and the late Donald E. MacLeod. He had lived in Westport for many years .

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in New Bedford, where he was union steward. A lifelong Democrat, he was a past president of the American Postal Workers Union, New Bedford Chapter.

Mr. MacLeod was baptized and confirmed at Grace Episcopal Church.

He was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved spending time at the beach, especially with his family. He enjoyed taking walks, and his Sunday morning strolls frequently took him to the Bayside for breakfast.

An exuberant New York Yankees fan, Mr. MacLeod remained steadfast in a sea of Boston Red Sox fans. He was also a fan of the New England Patriots.

He loved animals.

He graduated from New Bedford High School and held a bachelor's degree in sociology from Southeastern Massachusetts University.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his son, Jesse Souza of San Francisco; three sisters, Jane Rockwood and her husband, Richard, of Wilton, N.H., Marjorie Knight of Marshfield, and Cynthia MacLeod and her husband, John Jaeger, of New Bedford; four nieces, Jennifer Knight, Kathleen Ruppert, Maura Sullivan and Elisabeth Walker; three nephews, David Knight, Jonathan Knight and Thomas Knight; his grandnieces and grandnephews, Samuel and Anna Ruppert, Ralph Mackin III, Thomas, Madeline and David Walker; and his dear friends, Stephanie and Mark Pawlak and Matthew Cziska.

A celebration of his life, to which family and friends are invited, will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, in the Grace Church Parish House, 133 School St., New Bedford, Ma.

A private family service will take place with burial in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, Ma.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
