Carver – Winifred A. “Winnie” (Pierce) Julio 85, formerly of Whitman, died Thursday January 10 in Tufts Medical Center, Boston. She was the beloved wife of 61 years to Michael Julio.
A lifelong resident of Plymouth County, Winnie was born and grew up in Brockton, raised her family in Whitman and retired to Carver, wintering in Kissimmee, FL.
She was a member of the “Red Hatters Club” both in Carver and Kissimmee, FL.
Winnie was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Brockton. As a young girl she had attended the Rockne Girls Camp out of Brockton, this inspired her love of camping.
Winnie and her husband Mike began camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire at White Lake State Park in Tamworth, NH where she made lifelong friends, and was well known for introducing her children’s’ friends to the joys of camping.
Winnie was a vivacious and out-going woman who “never met a stranger”. She will be remembered for her love of children, her charity work and her laughter. She truly loved life, but most of all she loved her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her husband Mike she is survived by her loving children Michele (Julio) Brown and her husband David of Champaign, IL, Dale Julio and his husband Rob Morrisey of Quincy, and David Julio and his partner P-M Andersson of Stockholm, Sweden and her grandchildren Daniel, Michael and Caroline Brown of Champaign, IL. She also leaves behind her niece Jane Benoit of Cape Cod, her nephews Jack Fraher of CA, Michael Fraher of FL, an her nieces Susan Tardie and Jill Prebble both of MA, also her niece Tami Kelley of Brockton and her nephew Dana Kelley of Raynham as well as many Julio nieces and nephews.
As a “snowbird” in Florida, Winnie loved volunteering for “Give the Kids the World” a charity that treated children with life threatening illness and their families to Orlando theme park vacations. Therefore donations in her name may be made to “Give the Kids the World”, 210 South Bass Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746
Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours to be held Wednesday January 16 from 2-6 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. The family will also host a gathering at 6:30 PM, following the visiting hours, at the Monponsett Inn, Rte. 58 in Halifax. All other services are omitted request of the family.
