FRANKLIN—Louis J. Faenza 87, of Franklin, died peacefully, at his home surrounded by his family, Thursday January 10, 2013 following complications of chronic pulmonary disease. He was the beloved husband of Madeline A. (Lange) Faenza.
He was born in Milford on November 6, 1925 the son of Alexander and Clotilda (Marini) Faenza. He completed his elementary education in Franklin and was a graduate of Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA.
He attended Boston Teachers College and trained as a Medical technologist at the Mallory Institute of Pathology of Boston City Hospital.
In 1959, following a career in various medical research facilities, he joined the Organic research Department’s Electron Microscopy Laboratory of the Cabot Corporation in Cambridge.
In 1961 he was transferred to the company’s Boston headquarters working in various administrative capacities in both its Carbon Black and Fumed Silica divisions.
In 1978, after completion of courses of study in Epidemiology and Industrial Toxicology, he was assigned to the Industrial Hygiene section in the office of Regulatory Affairs which included responsibility for maintaining oversight of the health and safety programs of the company’s manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada. He retired in 1983.
In 1985 Mr. Faenza was appointed as an instructor in the Right-To-Know Law by the Division of Occupational Hygiene of the Dept. of Labor and Industries of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. At that time he was also appointed as a substitute teacher in the Tri-County Regional High School. He was active in a number of community organizations over the years including two years as a Conservation Commissioner. He was a past president of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary’s Church and President of the first Parish Council. At the time of his death, Mr. Faenza was a 64 year member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Brother Robert Nichols Assembly of the 4th Degree since 1961.
He was also past president of the Quattro Eroi Lodge, Sons of Italy and of the Franklin rod and Gun Club as well as a member of the Independent Sportsman’s Club in Attleboro.
Among his many interests and hobbies he enjoyed chess, woodworking, calligraphy and Languages. He was especially interested in History, particularly that of the Civil War. However, above all, he always looked forward to the fall when he and his sons would hunt for the small game birds of the season.
In the early 1970’s he served on the Leadership Committee of Boy Scout troop 126.
Mr. Faenza was a veteran of WWII and served in the Corp of Military Police in the 86th Division, 4th Army.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years and two sons; Paul and his wife Brigid and their twin daughters, Alice Elizabeth, and Mary Margaret of Mt. Holly, VT, and Peter of Franklin. He also leaves his brother-in-law, the Rev. George O. Lange of Shrewsbury.

His interment with military honors will be held privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
