Rita (Walker) Toomey, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Born in North Andover, she was a life-long resident and a graduate of Johnson High School.
Rita was formerly employed at AT&T Technologies, retiring in 1987. She was an attendant at St. Michael Church, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
The widow of Herbert J. Toomey, she is survived by sons Dennis M. and his wife Linda of North Andover, Kevin J. of Lawrence, a daughter-in-law Kathleen, wife of Rita's late son John of Manchester, New Hampshire, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, a sister Gertrude Wristen of Haverhill, a sister-in-law Rita C. Walker of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael Church in North Andover. Burial will take place at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, also in North Andover. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., Lawrence, MA.
