TAUNTON – Fernando J. Frates of Taunton, husband of the late Florence (Machado) Frates, died at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Jan. 8, 2013.
He was 85. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Lawrence) Frates.
A retired custodian, Mr. Frates was employed by the TMLP for many years.
He lived in East Taunton for many years before moving to Taunton.
A communicant of Holy Family Church, he served as a collector for the parish for several years.
In his spare time, Mr. Frates enjoyed word search puzzles and yard work.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Jean Messina of Taunton;
his daughter, Diane J. Lema and her husband Richard of Haines City, FL;
a sister, Augustina Overstreet of Michigan;
two grandchildren, Vicki O’Brien of Taunton and Richard Lema, Jr. of Swansea;
six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Augustine Frates, Alice Ford, Ludvina Monroe, Mary Correiro, and Hilda Perry.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday Jan. 14th at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday Jan. 13th from 2 to 5 p.m.
