Margaret E. Flannery, 70

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Margaret E. (Freeman) Flannery, age 70, a resident of the Village at Willow Crossing in Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton. She was the beloved wife of William F. Flannery.
Born in Milton, MA on October 12, 1942, she was a loving daughter of Elizabeth (Harlow) Freeman of Walpole and the late Reed Freeman.
Peggy grew up in the Hyde Park section of Boston and was a graduate of the Girls Latin School of Boston. She furthered her education and was a graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.
A dedicated homemaker to her family, Mrs. Flannery had formerly worked as a head teller at the former First National Bank in Roslindale and as a secretary to the late William Bellamy of Mansfield.
Peggy had made her home in Mansfield for the past 40 years and was extremely active in community affairs. She was a member of the National Society of the DAR and a member and past regent of the Mansfield Chapter of the DAR. She was a member of the Natural Trust Committee in Mansfield, and served as a former secretary of the Mansfield Ambulance Fund.
A member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Mansfield, her other involvements included being a member and serving on the board of the Sgt William Harlow Family Association in Plymouth, and as a former chairman and mayor of the residents council at Willow Crossing of which she and her husband Bill were the first permanent residents.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her devoted son, Matthew F. Flannery and his wife Susan of Milford. She was the dear sister of Reed H. Freeman of Florida and the late Jerry Freeman, and is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Caitlin E. Flannery and Ian Flannery both of Milford, and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, January 14th at 12:30 P.M. in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 47 High St., Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:30 P.M.
A service celebrating her life will also be held on Saturday, January 19th from 9:00 A.M. till 4:00 P.M. at the Village at Willow Crossing Club House, 25 Cobb St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Willow Crossing Nurses Scholarship Fund, 25 Cobb St., Unit M102, Mansfield, MA 02048
