Obituary

FRANKLIN—Thomas M. “Tom” Rohan 74, of Franklin, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Tuesday January 8, 2013 at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Westborough, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Susan C. (Weaver) Rohan and the late Margaret (Labute) Rohan who died in 1969.
Born in Norwood, on New Year’s Eve December 31, 1938 a son of the late William M. & Isabelle (MacDonald) Rohan, he was a resident of Franklin since 1960, and was a former resident of Dedham.
He was raised and educated in Dedham, where he attended St. Mary’s grammar school and was a 1956 graduate of Dedham High School. Following his graduation he joined the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class, he was awarded the good conduct medal and was honorably discharged in July of 1958.
Upon returning to the area, Tom began his career working for Massachusetts Electric as a lineman and worked out of the Attleboro and Hopedale offices, he retired after 34 years of service. In 1975 when he was not working for the eclectic company, he began working for area funeral homes as a hearse and limousine driver. Following his retirement from Mass Electric he would be seen working at the Oteri Funeral Home as a greeter and driver, a job he truly loved. He also worked part-time at the former “Disney” Store in Natick.
An avid sports fan he enjoyed watching the New England Patriots, the Green Bay Packers, and college football. He treasured time spent with his family & traveling to Walt Disney World.
He was a member of the Edward F. McSweeney 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Sacred Heart Council Knights of Columbus #1847 in Franklin, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #104.
In addition to his wife of 42 years he is survived by a son Thomas M. Rohan, Jr. and his wife Nicole of Foxboro, 2 daughters Heather L. Rohan and Megan A. Rohan both of Franklin, a sister Isabel Banville of Franklin & a granddaughter Emma E. Rohan.
He was the father of the late Barry, Kimberly & Scott Rohan and the brother of the late William M. Rohan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Saturday Jan. 12th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.oterifuneralhome.com with a funeral Mass in St. Jude Church 86 Main St. Norfolk, MA 02056 at 10AM.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours are Friday Jan. 11th, from 4-8PM.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital PO Box 3704 Memphis, TN 38173-3704.
