GLOUCESTER: David R. Jackson, 75, died Tuesday afternoon, January 8, 2013 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness. He was the husband of Stephanie M. (Spinola) Jackson.
Born in New York City on October 12, 1937, he was the son of the late John L. and Anna L. (Daum) Jackson.
A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country for sixteen years in numerous locations including France, New Mexico and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in May of 1971.
He had been employed for many years as a millwright for the former Haverhill Paperboard until his first retirement. Not one to sit idle, over the past five years he had been employed at Crosby’s Market in Manchester-by-the-Sea.
A true patriot and gentleman, David’s greatest joys came from being with his family, helping raise his grandchildren and traveling the world with his beloved wife, Stephanie. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa, wife of Matthew Bernstein; son, Michael, husband of Marygrace Vestal; six grandchildren, Mia, Michael and Marisa Vestal, Lyla Bernstein, Bonnie and Julie McCormick; his siblings, Barbara Lemoine, James Jackson, Richard, husband of Florence Jackson, Neil, husband of Faye Jackson, Gail, wife of Clay Campbell, Daniel, husband of Bonnie Jackson, Wayne, husband of Carol Jackson and Gary, husband of Patricia Jackson; sisters and brother-in-law, Catherine, wife of John Aiello, Natalie, wife of Eric Hasenstab and Domenic Spinola; and mother and father-in-law, Ida and Memo Spinola. He also leaves many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, including his dear cousin, Marian Parco; and among many special friends, Cecilia Cecilio, Donna and Ed Currier, Donna Stefano, Bogie and Deb and Dave Bridges. He was also predeceased by his son, David R. Jackson, II; and brothers, John, Charles and Robert Jackson.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at noon. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
