Obituary

Mary B. (Gunning) Walsh, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, passed into eternal life on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after an extended illness. She was 91 years old.

Mary was born in Boston on January 15, 1921, a daughter of the late John J. Gunning and Margaret F. (Harte) Gunning. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. Mary was a dedicated and devoted homemaker and spent all of her adult life caring for her husband and 7 children. Mary was a devoted communicant at St. Francis De Sales Church in Charlestown and a big supporter of Catholic Television. She was past president of the Ladies Auxilliary of Bunker Hill, James W. Conway American Legion Post # 26 of Charlestown.

Mary is the beloved wife of the late Michael J. Walsh. She is the devoted mother of Michael J. Walsh Jr. and his wife Christine of Middleboro, Margaret Walsh and her husband Jack of Cambridge, Kevin J. Walsh and his wife Paula of Sandwich, John P. Walsh and his wife Donna of Foxboro, James F. Walsh and his wife Kathleen of Charlestown, Thomas W. Walsh and his wife Debra of Lincoln and Mary Walsh-Gordon and her husband Michael of Dedham. She is the beloved Nana to 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Frederick Gunning of Charlestown, Margaret Murphy of Medford and the late John, Thomas, James and Francis Gunning. She is the beloved sister-in-law of Jeremiah Kelleher of Weymouth. She is the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:00 p.m. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
