Savas Joannides
July 12, 1926 - January 7, 2013

Savas Joannides, 86, of Anderson, died January 7, 2013 at Bethany Pointe following an extended illness. He was born on July 12, 1926 in Alexandria, Egypt the son of Charalambus and Elizabeth (Simeonides) Joannides.

Savas was a teacher and counselor with Anderson Community Schools for 26 1/2 years retiring in June of 1992. He spent many years at East Side Middle School and Highland High School. He was a missionary with the Missionary Board of the Church of God and had pastored the Church of God in Athens, Greece 1963-1968.

He received a BA degree in 1957 from Warner Pacific College in Portland, OR, and a BS Degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR in 1958. Following that he attended Anderson Theological Seminary and finally Ball State University where he received his Masters Degree in Counseling in1960.

Savas married Olive M. (Fiscus) Joannides on August 17, 1958 in Kittanning, PA.

He was a member of Park Place Church of God, where he was a member of the Pathways Sunday School Class and the Men's Prayer Breakfast. He was a member of Anderson Lions Club and AHEPA, of which he had been a former District Governor.

He is survived by his wife, Olive M. (Fiscus) Joannides of Anderson; 2 daughters, Joy Lynn (Joannides) and (husband Brent) McKay of Fremont, NE and Jan Lee (husband Brett Olson) Joannides of Zumbro Falls, MN; 4 grandchildren, Benjamin McKay and Andrew McKay and Olivia Olson Joannides and Axel Joannides Olson; sister, Polly Kourouniotis of Athens, Greece; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson with Dr. David Markle officiating and assisted by Dr. Donald Johnson and Phil Bruzzese.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 10 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Friday one hour prior tot he service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Park Place Church of God Endowment Fund or Church of God Global Missions.
