Obituary

Raymond J. Liberty, 92, of Higgins Street, died Sunday at Hospice Inpatient Center. He was the husband of Mary E. (Hardy). They were married for 71 years and resided in Smithfield since their marriage.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Sagar S. and Flora (McQueen) Liberty.

Mr. Liberty had worked as a metal worker for ITT Grinnell and later worked for BIF as an electrical worker before retiring.

He was a Navy veteran of WWII having served in the Armed Guard as a gunner aboard the USS Harriet Tubman and the USS Cape Kildare in convoys on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. He had also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Utah, VT and NH building bridges and dams.

He is also survived by his daughters, Delores M. Breard and her husband Robert of Johnston, Barbara A. Aust and her husband Steve of Chepachet, Evelyn L. Aust and her husband Robert of Johnston and Karen M. Blanchette and her husband Augustin of Villa Rica, GA; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; and a sister Doris Lemos of Johnston. He was the brother of the late Norman Liberty, Evelyn Watmough, Georgiana Kulmacz and Clarence Liberty.

Funeral Service Thursday at 11am in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Burial with military honors in Highland Park, Johnston. Visitation Wednesday 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Sisters of RI, 1540 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920.
