Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — John W. Arnett, age 88 years, of New Bedford, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at Kindred Hallmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. He was the husband of the late Natalie B. (Smith) Arnett.

Son of the late Edward R. and Mary Jane (Wallace) Arnett, he was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bentley College.

During WWII he served in the U. S. Army in the Antiaircraft Artillery Guided Missile Battalion and was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Con­duct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Purple Heart.

A communicant of St. Lawrence Church, John worked for the accounting office of his late brother Robert Arnett and also the office of Norman Beauregard and Jed Cohen. With his late wife they were the proprietors of the former Widow's Walk Antique Shop.

John is survived by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Brennan and Margaret O'Neill of New Bedford, Alice Larson and Shirley Smith of Dartmouth, and his brother-in-law, Alexander Smith of Rockport.

Visitation will take place on Monday from 3-5 P.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB. His funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church and burial in Rural Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to the ­charity of one's choice.
