Dennis R. Messier, 58, of New Bedford, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013. He was the husband of Dawn M. Davidian and the late Michelle (Tetreault) Messier.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Romeo and Lucille (Lariviere) Messier, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Messier was formerly employed as a postal clerk at the Downtown New Bedford Post Office until his retirement.
Dennis was an all-around great guy. He had served as President of the South End Youth Athletic Association for 15 years. He was an active volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club of New Bedford and the New Bedford Bay Sox.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife; his parents; six sons, Aaron Messier, Joshua Messier, William Davidian, Nicholas Messier, Christopher Messier, and Michael Messier; his siblings, Stephen Messier, Deborah Mayer, Richard Messier, Mark Messier, William Messier, Michelle Berberian, and Donna Mayer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 12 Noon at St. John Neumann Church, East Freetown. Cremation will follow. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2-6 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
