Herman Bruce West, 90, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Thursday, January 3, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Big Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne McCrimmon, the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. and the Rev. Travis Graham officiating. John West and Bruce West will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. West was born January 29, 1922 in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Rev. J. A. West and Ethel Simmons West. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Irwinville Lodge #315 F&AM and a member of Big Creek Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Eva Nell West of Irwinville, Georgia; sons: Bruce & Brenda West of Kathleen, Georgia and John West of Irwinville, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Amy West Cone & Randy Cone, Sonya Hampton Burns & Klayton Burns, Nathan & Laresa West, Holly West Graham & Travis Graham, David & Alicia West, Lena West and Dorsey West; 11 great-grandchildren: Chris Bryant, Colby Godwin, Will Godwin, Lauren Grace Godwin, Joshua Walls, Makaila Walls, Zoie West, Hunter West, Tucker Graham, Mercer West and West Burns; sister: Carolyn Long of Hinesville, Georgia; brother: David West of Rincon, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife’s parents: J.H. & Myrtle Crawley, a daughter: Jane West Hampton and a grandson: Scott Hampton.
