NATICK: F. Paul Alcock, age 71, a former longtime Natick resident and town employee, died suddenly on New Year’s Day, 2013, at his Westborough home.
Born in Natick, he was the youngest of the eight children born to the late George A. and Isabelle (Manning) Alcock. Paul grew up on North Main Street in Natick in his youth and later moved to Sandwich, NH, where he proudly attended the Quimby School with a handful of classmates. He then served with the Navy as an Airman aboard the carrier USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War.
Paul married and settled in Natick to raise a family and worked for many years as a driver with Mayflower Trucking and the Sunshine Biscuit Company. If his route kept him late on the day of one of his boy’s ballgames, his sons could invariably look up to find the Sunshine Biscuit truck parked at the edge of the ball field. In 1986, Paul became employed with the Natick DPW. Among his many duties, he took particular care in keeping the town’s playing fields looking pristine until his 2006 retirement. An enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, Paul had also coached the Natick Pop Warner Junior Redmen for over twenty years. More recently, he would pick up his paper and a cup of coffee and head off to a parking spot at Whitehall State Park in Hopkinton to enjoy mornings by the water.
He is survived by three sons, Brian J. Alcock of Natick, Paul A. Alcock and his wife Sherri of Waterboro, ME, and Todd J. Alcock and his wife Beth of Southborough; 9 grandchildren, Daniel, Tyler, Cameron, Angela, Max, Cole, Emma, Nicholas, and Caroline; two sisters, Helen Reed of Westerly, RI, Patricia Burnham of Westborough, a brother, Ken Alcock and his wife Betty of Sandwich, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings Warren Alcock, George Alcock, Jr., Barbara Donovan, and Shirley Beaman.
Visiting hours will be held at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Tuesday, Jan. 8th, 4 – 7p.m. His funeral will be private. Donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the Friends of Whitehall, P.O. Box 216, Woodville, MA 01784.
