Obituary

Joseph “Joe Cheese” Gioia, 86 of Boston’s North End died Wednesday in the Bear Hill Nursing Home, Wakefield, MA.

Born in Boston, he was a lifelong resident of Boston’s North End. Joseph retired in 1975 as a Fish Buyer for the former A&P Fish processing Plant in Boston. From 1978-1980 he was the Proprietor of Joseph’s Restaurant in the Boston’s North End. He also was the Sous Chef at the former Carlo Marino’s Restaurant also in Boston’s North End.

Cherished son of the late Pauline (Messina) and Peter Gioia. Devoted brother of Andrew Gioia and his wife Marie, and Mary Sullivan all of Medford, and the late Michael, Frank and Phillip Gioia. Also survived my many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Saturday at 2 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 11-2 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in Joseph’s name to the St. John School, 9 Moon St., Boston, MA 02113.
