HAVERHILL: Edna B. (Bixby) Twombly, 94, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the Wingate at Haverhill. She was the wife of the late Gerald E. Twombly.
Born in Haverhill on February 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Josephine M. (Legault) Bixby. She was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and a graduate of Haverhill High School.
Edna was employed as a fancy stitcher for the former Kramer Shoe Company in Haverhill for many years until her retirement in 1972. She loved to bake and was known for her delicious pies and fig squares. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Gordon Driscoll of Chelmsford, Linda and Michael Fedenyszen and Karen and Lee Greenberg all of Haverhill; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a sister, Rita King and four brothers, Melville, Walter, Raymond and Ralph Bixby.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill at 12 noon. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 12 noon. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. Interment will be held in the Linwood Cemetery.
