Avila, Samuel P. 92, formerly of Norwood, died at Wingate at Silver Lake December 27, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Isabel (Murray) Avila of Norwood and Bristol, NH. Loving father of Patricia Johnson and her husband Carl of Plymouth, Dianne Dolan and her husband Joe of Stoughton, and Robert Avila and his wife Donna of Scituate. He also leaves three sisters Marie Campagna of Malden, Rose Gorham of West Roxbury, and Ida Maguire of Belmont, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Samuel was born in Boston the son of Camillo and Rose (Dellaria) Avila. He attended school in East Boston and graduated from Suffolk Law School. Samuel served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was the former Vice President of Babcock Equipment Company in Needham. He enjoyed playing golf, boating and summered at Newfound Lake in Bristol, NH. Samuel was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus in Norwood. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home 373 Court St. (Rte 3A) N. Plymouth on Monday December 31, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St Mary’s Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery
