WAYLAND: Alice L. (Marchant) Tauer, 90, died unexpectedly on December 26, 2012 at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
She was born in Morgan, Minnesota on April 23, 1922 the daughter of the late Howard Marchant and Mary (Janotta) Marchant.
Alice is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years Kenneth J. Tauer of Wayland. Loving mother of Gregory P. Tauer and his wife Patty of Natick; Susan Tauer of Wayland; Kathleen Tauer of Framingham and the late Mary K. Tauer who died in July of 2012. Devoted grandmother of Yvon Edoumou of Kinshasa, Congo; Kelly Hendricks and her husband Benjamin of Ashland; Karen Ano of Wayland; Erica L. Tauer of Natick and Kimberly Tauer of Framingham. Cherished Great-grandmother of Cameron James Hendricks. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Alice has been a resident of Wayland for over 50 years and previously resided in Natick. She spent her formative years in Morgan, MN and was a graduate of Morgan High School. She continued her education at a business school in Minneapolis, MN. For several years she was the Secretary and Bookkeeper for the independent contracting firm of J J Bonavire of Natick. For several years she was a sales associate at the Wayland Apothecary. Alice was recently honored for her dedication and commitment for 50 years with the Girl Scouts of America. She was an active troop leader in Wayland for her daughters, served as a cookie chair and as a volunteer at the Girl Scout Museum in Waltham. For many years, she represented the Girl Scouts in her region at their conventions and also served on the local area Board of Directors. She was an active communicant at St. Zepherin’s Church in Cochituate and served as a Past President of the Womens Club of the Parish, was an original member to the Parish Council of the parish, served on the finance committee and was instrumental in establishing the Sunday morning coffee hours following Mass. She was also a member of the Wayland Womens Club and for over 40 years served the Town of Wayland at the polls as a Warden with Precinct Two. Alice loved to do her indoor gardening, caring for her plants and also raised African violets. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved knitting, crocheting and doing needlepoint. She also spent countless hours creating crafts for the annual craft fair. Alice touched the lives of many people in her 90 years and will be greatly loved and missed by her family and friends.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Wayland.
Family and friends are invited to go directly to the Good Shepherd Parish at Saint Zepherin’s Church, 99 Main Street (Route 27), Wayland for her Mass of Christian burial on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in the Tauer family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial gifts in Alice’s memory be sent to the Girl Scouts of Eastern MA, 95 Berkeley St., Ste 404, Boston, MA 02116 or to the charity of the donors’ choice.
