Roland V. Jean, 92, of Methuen, died peacefully Friday, December 28, 2012 in Holy Family Hospital, Methuen.
Roland, son of the late Honore A. and Elizabeth (Edwards) Jean, was born in Methuen December 8, 1920 and lived here all of his life. His beloved wife, Rita A. (Surette) Jean, died in 1999. Roland was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.
He was the foreman for forty years at HP Hoods and had a second career at the Fireside Pub and Restaurant for 29 years.
Mr. Jean was a member of the Masons and the Fraternal Order of Elks. He was an enthusiastic golfer and greatly enjoyed playing 45's. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Up until three weeks ago, he was still completing the Eagle Tribune Crossword Puzzle every morning. Roland and his wife Rita had the pleasure of traveling to Riverside, California to visit family on several occasions. He will be remembered best for the loving affection he shared with his grandchildren who were a constant source of pride to him.
Roland will be deeply missed by his children, Steven V. Jean and his wife Pat of Methuen and Melissa A. Foderaro and her husband Vito of Derry, NH; three sisters, Dorothy Rennie-Todd of Boxford, Valerie Blauvelt of Jaffrey, NH and Mildred Gordon of Dunstable; three grandchildren, Derek V. Jean, Anthony P. Foderaro and Jenna E. Foderaro; one great grandson, Shane Arcidiacono and one great great grandson, Brandon Arcidiacono and several nephews and nieces.
Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Roland’s life at a funeral service to be held in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 10 AM. Deacon John Pierce of St. Monica’s Church in Methuen will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. Friends will be warmly received in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Methuen from 2-6 PM on Sunday. Pollard Funeral Home is honored to assist the Jean family with arrangements.
