Obituary

Frances H. (Johnson) LeMay, 90, of Medway died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the former wife of the late Richard LeMay.

Born in Framingham on June 20, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Harry T. and Allevina (Benson) Johnson.

Mrs. LeMay was a lifelong resident of Medway and attended Medway High School. She later earned an Associate’s Degree from the New England School of Arts in Boston. She was an accomplished artist and worked in acrylics, oils and watercolors, painting portraits and landscapes which included several old familiar Medway landmarks. One of her paintings hangs in the Medway Public Library. Fran loved music, playing the piano and singing. She sang for many years with the area chapter of Sweet Adelines, and also with the Charles River Chorale and the choir at Christ Episcopal Church in Medway. In addition to working fulltime and caring for her home, Fran was also the caregiver for her grandchildren and, later, for an aunt and an uncle. Her home was always open when a child, grandchild, or friend needed a helping hand for a few months or a few years.

Mrs. LeMay worked for several years at the former Dennison Mfg. Company in Framingham. She spent more than twenty years with Ratheon, later G.T.E., in Needham, where she had a top-secret clearance for her drafting and design work on many government projects. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to singing competitions with Sweet Adelines friends as well as traveling for pleasure.

Mrs. LeMay was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Medway, serving as head of the Altar Guild for many years, as chairman of the annual Christmas Fair on several occasions, and singing in the choir. She was considered the “Grand Dame” of pie-crust-making during the annual apple-pie-making activities for the fair, and she organized groups which made crafts for the fair.

She is survived by her daughter Joan (Fontaine) Power of Milford, two sons, Richard LeMay of Coplin Plantation, ME and Timothy LeMay of Medway, eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, George Johnson, Marjorie Rice, Harry T. Johnson and Theodore Johnson, all of Medway, and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Ann (Fontaine) Ingoldsby and sister of the late Virginia (Johnson) Brennan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at Christ Episcopal Church, 14 School St., Medway on Monday, December 31 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in West Medway.
