New Bedford – George E. Thompson, 78, of N. Dartmouth died after a long illness on June 28, 2004 at New Bedford Health Care Center. He was husband of the late Florence I. (Jones) Thompson and the late Hazel S. (Dakin) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was born in New Bedford, son of the late Arthur C. and Grace E. (Pittsley) Thompson, and resided in N. Dartmouth for the past 34 years. He was a member of the People’s Christian Church, New Bedford. He was employed by Berkshire Hathaway, New Bedford for 23 years and later by the Acushnet Company, New Bedford until his retirement due to disability in 1982. He enjoyed antique cars and trains, square dancing, camping and loved to travel.
Survivors include a daughter: Lucinda J. Gravelle and her husband Steven C. of New Bedford; 2 stepdaughters: Joyce Lauze of TX and Barbara Zanger of MI; a stepson: James Lees of MI; 3 sisters: Arlene G. Briggs of Acushnet, Natalie M. Tripp of Acushnet and Barbara E. Savaria of Marion; 1 grandson: Steven C. Gravelle of New Bedford; 3 great-grandchildren: Joshua Clapp, Justin A. Gravelle and Jessica L. Bradley all of New Bedford; and many nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Terrance W. Thompson, Garvice E. Thompson, Arthur C. Thompson, Jr. and Robert W. Thompson.

Memorial Service on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 3:30 P.M. at the People’s Christian Church, New Bedford.
