Herbert, Eve C. (Carrier) of Needham. December 24, 2012. Age 88. Beloved wife of Joseph G. Herbert Jr. for 47 years. Born in Rumford, Maine. Graduate of Stevens High School in Rumford, Maine. She was a registered nurse at N.E. Baptist Hospital, graduate of Columbia University, NY City.
Eve was a director of the Alaryngeal Speech Unit at the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary which help teach people who have lost their larynxes or voice boxes how to speak again. She served as president and director of the Boston Cured Cancer Club for Laryngectomees. In 1989, Eve received the Bronze Medal Award from the American Cancer Society, its highest volunteer award, for her extraordinary commitment to laryngectomee patients throughout the state. She received the American Cancer Society National Divisional Award and the Reynolds Society Achievement Award. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bridge, golf, watching movies/sports, and spending time with her family.
Loving and devoted mother of Edward and his wife Patricia of Milton, Deborah of Lexington, Patricia H. Merriam and her husband Russ of Norfolk. Michael and his wife Meredith of Winchester, Timothy and his wife Pam of Westwood.
Grandmother of Alison, Joe, and Mary Herbert; Joel Merriam; William and Louis Herbert; Meghan, Thomas, and Colin Herbert.
Sister of Gloria Kissell of Chappaqua, NY and the late Edward “Bud” Carrier. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 1305 Highland Ave. NEEDHAM, Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday, 4-8. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham.
