Charlton
Harold Tallman Jensen, 95 of the Overlook Masonic Home, died peacefully in the company of his children and companion on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.
He was born August 25, 1917 at home in East Boston, MA. To Gunder N. and Harriet M. (Lund) Jensen both of Norway. Mr. Jensen was a resident of Milton and Dover, MA, Rangeley,ME., Brewster, MA., and finally Charlton. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Irene (Robinson) Jensen.
Harold is survived by his sister Laura K. Gurney of S. Yarmouth, MA., now 100, Lois Q. Racz his companion in later life, of Charlton, his three children David E. Jensen of Lake Pleasant, MA., Nancy J. Brattan of Rye, N.H., and Peter H. Jensen of Kingfield, ME. And a son-in-law Robert F. Brattan of Rye, N.H. and a daughter-in-law Stephanie (Stout) Jensen of Kingfield, ME.
He leaves 7 grandchildren, Enoch O. Jensen of Shelburne, MA., Ashley M. Jensen of Carrabassett Valley, ME., Kyle P. Jensen of Temple, ME., Josh A. Smith of Phillips, ME., Tyler A. Jensen of Kingfield, ME., and Kayley J. Brattan and Lyndsay J. Brattan of Rye, N.H., and 3 great grandchildren, Una C., Mathew J. and Carli B. Jensen of Shelburne, MA.
Mr. Jensen served in WWII in the Seabees. His early deployment was delayed by the accidental death of his father in January 1942. He served in Iceland, Hawaii, Tinian and concluded his military service in Okinawa.
After the war, in 1948 Mr. Jensen married Barbara Irene Robinson of Milton, MA. And settled in the Mattapan area until they could build their home in Dover, MA. Where they raised their children.
Mr. Jensen graduated from The Lowell Technical School and was employed by the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. and its successors from age 18 for 41 years retiring at age 59 to Rangeley, ME. In 1976. The couple finally settled in Brewster, MA. In 1995 where Mrs. Jensen expired in 1999.
Mr. Jensen loved history, gardening and travel throughout his life. He made it to Normandy in 2002 and his final trip was to Arizona in 2006 at the age of 89. He was an active and contributing Mason for 53 years and Shriner.
A Rememberance Service and gathering will be held at the Overlook Masonic Home, 88 Masonic Home Rd., in Charlton, MA. On Saturday, January 5, 2013 with a Service at 11 AM in The James C. Nicholl, Jr. Chapel and a reception following. The family would welcome any card, personal note, picture, personal remembrance or your presence.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Contribution to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Overlook Hospice program. It was Harold’s final comfort in a long life.
The Robert J. Miller-Charlton Funeral Home, 175 Old Worcester Rd. is assisting Harold’s family with arrangements.
