New Bedford – Maria Olivia Tomko, age 65, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. Mrs. Tomko was the beloved wife of Michael J. Tomko. She is survived by her 4 siblings: Marcia Moniz, Connie Rodriguez, Pauline Fernandes, and John Sousa. Mrs. Tomko is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tomko was born on the Island of Madeira, Portugal, the daughter of the late Conceicao (Abreu) and Manuel Sousa. She has lived in this area since 1973. Mrs. Tomko worked as a housekeeper at St. Luke’s Hospital and also worked at New Bedford Thread Company for over 20 Years. Maria enjoyed caring for her nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tomko’s funeral will be at Perry Funeral Home on Friday, beginning at 9:30 A.M. with religious services to begin at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thurday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
