Obituary

Janet Ruth (Philbrick) Johnson died peacefully on December 23, 2012 at Androscoggin Valley Hospital with her beloved family by her side. Janet was born in Portland, Maine on November 20th, 1936, the daughter of Willard and Margaret Philbrick. Her family moved to Gorham NH, and then Berlin NH around 1942. She graduated from Berlin High School in 1954 and worked for the Brown Company as a secretary and later for the NH Department of Health and Human Services. She married Mylo Johnson on July 11, 1958. Janet attended the NH Vocational Technical College in Berlin graduating with an Associate’s Degree in secretarial sciences in 1978. She then worked for the Northern NH Council on Alcoholism for several years.

Janet was the very proud and devoted mother of 3 children. She also cared deeply for her two granddaughters. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching classic movies, doing crossword puzzles, spending holidays with family, cooking, and shopping for gifts. She had a skillful hand for drawing and was an incredibly graceful swimmer. As a youth she enjoyed horseback riding and cheerleading at Berlin High School. Lunches out with her dear friend Myrna were also a special treat. Janet was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. Her deep faith was a source of strength for her. She will be especially remembered by her family for her generosity, unwavering support, and commitment to their well being and her infectious, heartfelt laughter.

She is survived by her spouse of 54 years, Mylo Johnson, son Eric Johnson and wife Louise of Berlin NH, daughter Inga Johnson and Patrick Dignan of Easton, NH, daughter Elsa Johnson-Carr and husband Charles Carr of Bristol, NH, grandchildren Melissa Johnson and husband Jon Blais of Keene, NH and Maria Johnson and companion Kyle Jacques of Deerfield, NH. She is survived by a sister Dorothy Dryden of Midwest City, Oklahoma, a step-brother Frederick Fickett of Boulder, Colorado and many nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by her father Willard Philbrick, mother Margaret Fickett, stepfather Roland Fickett and brother Richard Philbrick.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday December 29, 2012 at 10AM. Interment will be in New City Cemetery. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Anyone who wishes may make a donation to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 101 Norway St., Berlin, NH, 03570, in her memory.
