James N. Williams

Martinez, GA –Mr. James N. (Jim) Williams, 85, husband of Marcile (Strickland) Williams for 65 years, entered into rest on Friday, December 21, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. John United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Williams was a native of Black Oak, AR. where he graduated from Black Oak High School. He attended Washington University in St. Louis and Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR from 1947 to 1951. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947 including a 10 month tour in the South Pacific. Mr. Williams retired from Montgomery Wards in 1989 after 36 years with that company. He was the Store Manager of the Wards store at the Augusta Regency Mall when he retired. Prior to that, he had been transferred 12 times and served mostly as Retail Store Manager in 13 Wards stores in 13 different cities and 8 different states – beginning in Texas and ending in Georgia. He then worked with Meybohm Realty.

Mr. Williams was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of St. John United Methodist Church since 1988. He was a member of Kiwanis Clubs since 1963, having served as President of the Mexico, MO club 1975-1976 and was more recently a member of the Uptown Kiwanis Club in Augusta. He was an active member of Gideons International in the Columbia County Camp.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Dr. Lynda K. Williams of Santa Clarita, CA, Mark Williams of Martinez, GA, one grandson, Mark C. Johnsen of Santa Clarita, CA, two nephews, John Robert Porter of Colliersville, TN and Ronald Waring Porter of Memphis, TN and several extended family members. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his brother, the late Coran Edward Williams, his sisters, Juanita Opal Butts and Dorothy Lee Porter, his nephew Coran Edward Williams Jr. and his grandson, Kristofer L. Johnsen.

Pallbearers will be Dr. William Gamble, Mr. Mark Maund, Mr. Steve VanDeventer, and Mr. Lansing Lee III.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, December 28, 2012, from 10:00AM until service time.
