NO. SALEM, NH - Bernardine C. “Bunny” (Babine) Walsh, L.P.N., age 77, died peacefully Sunday morning at her North Salem home, surrounded by her beloved family after a lengthy and courageous battle with lung disease. She was the beloved wife of Thomas M. Walsh Sr., with whom she celebrated a 57th wedding anniversary this past January 14th.
Bunny was born in Malden, October 1, 1935, one of two daughters of the late Jeffrey and Catherine (Galvin) Babine, and was raised in Malden and Arlington. She raised her family in Tewksbury, where she resided for 38 years, before retiring to No. Salem 16 years ago. When her family had grown and entered school, Bunny enrolled and earned her nursing degree at the Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as a L.P.N. from the Oblate Father’s Infirmary in Tewksbury after 25 years of service.
As a resident of Tewksbury, Bunny was a communicant of St. William’s Parish.
She was lovingly described as having devoted her life to God, her family, and nursing, and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Besides her husband, she is survived by six children, Thomas M. Walsh, Jr. and his wife Elaine (Pearson) of Tewksbury, Richard J. Walsh and his wife Lisa (Valenti) of Tyngsboro, Maureen F. Waterman, and her husband William of Tewksbury, Elaine M. Gorfinkle of Dublin, CA, Edward J. Walsh and his wife Joanne (Pittsley) with whom she and her husband resided in North Salem, NH, Barbara J. Frasca and her husband Neil of Haverhill; twelve adoring grandchildren, Leanne Merrill of Methuen, Rebecca and Cynthia Walsh of Tewksbury, Jessica Walsh of Dracut and Casey Walsh of Nashua, NH, Katie Gorfinkle of OR, Janelle Gorfinkle-Stroud of Brighton, and Lauren Gorfinkle of CA, Alexander and Cameron Walsh of Salem, NH, and Nina and Justin Frasca of Haverhill; a sister, Mary (Babine) Mullen of W. Roxbury; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her son, Robert J. Walsh who died in his infancy.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Dec. 29, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Memorial gifts to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, will be appreciated.
