GENS, Winifred (Doyle). Of Jamaica Plain and Humarock Beach, passed away December 22, 2012 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of 66 years to Francis W. Gens. Predeceased by her dear parents Bridget (Langan) and Timothy Doyle, and loving sisters Mary Doyle Branca and Catherine Keenan. Wonderful mother of Marylou Greene and her husband Jim of Jamaica Plain, Timothy Gens and his wife Madeleine of Weston; Frank Gens and his wife Marcia of Lexington; and Lisa Gens and Philip Gens of Jamaica Plain. Cherished grandmother of Lauren and Chris Petrigno, and Kathryn and James Greene, of Jamaica Plain; Jamie and Merrill Langley of Martha's Vineyard; Kathleen and Dylan Gens of Weston; and Christopher, Russell and Andrew Gens of Lexington. Loving great-grandmother of Catherine and Merrill Langley both of Martha's Vineyard. Survived by many devoted nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Winifred was a graduate of Emmanuel College Class of 1938, she was a Biologist at Boston City Hospital and co-authored research published in the New England Journal of Medicine. An active parishioner and leader of the Legion of Mary at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Jamaica Plain. Former member of the Hatherly Country Club, Scituate. Most of all Winifred was a loving wife, mother and master homemaker with extraordinary skills in carpentry, upholstery, sewing, knitting, baking and gardening.
Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury, on Friday, Dec. 28 at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Jamaica Plain at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in the funeral home Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00pm. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
