Duane R. Allen Sr., 78, of Stonington, died Friday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London after a long illness.
A life-long resident of Stonington, he was honorably discharged from the US Army after having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American legion.
He retired from Electric Boat in 1989 after 30 years of service.
He is survived by and lovingly remembered by his wife, Edith Elizabeth Martell Allen of Stonington; 4 children, Duane, Dana Darryl, and Cheryl Allen Chase; 6 grandchidlren, 5 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Conrada Avery, Elizabeth Crumb, Alice Rooten and 2 brothers, Donald Allen and Gordon Stafford., nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Myrtle Davis Allen Stafford and George Gilbert Allen, and two brothers, Henry and James Allen.
Duane’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic, on Wednesday from 6-8pm. A Service will be conducted on Thursday at 10am at the funeral home with the Rev. David I. Thomas, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of North Stonington, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery.
