Obituary

ANDOVER: Noreen R. (Kelly) Ellis, 71, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House surrounded by her family. Noreen was the wife of the late Edward C. Ellis who recently passed away in July.
Born in Haverhill on August 4, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Paul S. and Rita (O’Hagan) Kelly. She had resided in Haverhill before moving to Andover in 1986. Noreen was a graduate of St. James High School class of 1959. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching at Bridgewater State University in 1963 and her Master’s Degree in Reading Education from Michigan State University in 1967.
Noreen taught in the Haverhill public school system as a remedial reading teacher until her retirement in 1999. She also once worked as reading teacher for many years in the Gloucester public school system.
Noreen had a passion and talent for quilting and was also known for her love of reading. Her favorite and cherished times were the winters that she and her husband had spent at their home in St. Croix.
Noreen is survived by her loving brothers, James P. Kelly, Paul V. Kelly and his wife, Linda and Peter F. Kelly and his wife, Paula all of Haverhill; two nieces, Susan Mitchell and her husband, Ian of Manassas, VA and Kathleen Corbett and her husband, Jamie of Haverhill; four nephews, Daniel Kelly of San Diego, CA and his brother, Paul Kelly, Matthew Kelly and his brother, Brian Kelly all of Haverhill; three great-nephews, Sebastian Mitchell and Nathaniel and Matthew Corbett. She was also predeceased by her nephew, Brendan Kelly.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday in the St. James Church, 161 Winter St., Haverhill at 12 noon. Visiting hours will be held on Friday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill from 4 - 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215. Interment will be held in the West Parish Cemetery in Andover.
