GLOUCESTER: Donald J. Gray, 72, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. He was the husband of Roberta M. (Ryan) Jones.
Born in Gloucester on October 1, 1940, he was the son of the late Lester and Mary (Arvilla) Gray. He was a graduate of the Gloucester High School.
A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, after having been recalled to active duty, he was honorably discharged in July of 1966.
Don was employed at Matheson Gas for over thirty years. At one point, he enjoyed flying in small craft airplanes with his children. He and Roberta enjoyed going to Foxwoods and playing cards with friends.
In addition to Roberta, he is survived by his children, Dale J. Gray and Dawn Marie Sansonetti; stepchildren, Robin Smith and Wayne Smith, Jr.; two brothers, Philip, husband of Hilda Gray, Lester, Jr., husband of Irisa Gray; a sister, Gloria, wife of the late Lawrence Corliss; his former spouse, Joan (Crosby) Gray; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Angela L. Gray.
In keeping with his wishes, services will be held privately. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
