Obituary


WESTFIELD – Dennis A. Girouard, 69, of Westfield and a former longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, December 14, 2012. He passed into Eternal Life at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born at home in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on February 15, 1943, a beloved son of the late Elphage J. and Theresa H. (Jones) Girouard. He was raised and lived in Aldenville for many years before moving to Westfield around 1971. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam and attained the rank of Seaman. Following his military service, he returned to the area and was employed by the City of Easthampton for the Water Department and at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. During his leisure time, Dennis enjoyed music, dancing, NASCAR and the restoration of old cars. He was a member of the Western Mass Model T Club. He leaves his devoted wife and best friend, Sally A. (Rivet) Girouard. They were married on October 19, 1963 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 49 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving children, Kathleen M. Girouard and her partner, James A. Benoit, of Harwich, MA, James M. Girouard of Amberg, WI and Cindy L. Heroux of Blandford, MA; his four cherished grandchildren, Casey and Samantha Girouard and Jacob and Nicole Heroux; his dear sisters, Shirley Eaton and her husband, James, of York, ME and Donna Parks of Springfield; many dear nephews and nieces; and extended members of the Rivet family, his dear brothers-in-law, Robert Rivet of Leicester, VT and David Rivet of Chicopee; and his dear sisters-in-law, Eileen Killilea and her husband, Paul, of Quincy, MA and Diane Mendola and her husband, Carl, of Davie, FL. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 11 am until 12 noon which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 12 noon at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service will follow the Prayer Service at 2 pm in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
