Obituary

James D. Methven Born May 7, 1919, Found Peace on Tuesday June 22, 2004. He was 86 years old. Jim graduated post high school from the Norfolk Agricultural School and served in The United States Coast guard from 1940-1945. He was stationed in Greenland. He practiced professionally as a landscape gardener, owning his own business until he retired and moved from Walpole to Gloucester where he resided by the ocean. Jim enjoyed deep-sea fishing, boating, and long walks on the beach with his dog “Nikki”. He continued to practice gardening as a hobby, winning an award for “Best Garden in Gloucester” in 1995. In 1998 Jim moved to Mequon, Wisconsin where he resided with his daughter and son in law, helping tremendously in making Hidden View Farm a beautiful property. The devoted husband of the late Virginia (Trumbull) Methven. Loving father of James D. Methven Jr. and his wife Joanne of Corning NY and Dr. Eileen Sherman and her husband Dr. David of Mequon WI. Special grandfather of Christopher M. Adams and Lauren M. Sherman of Mequon WI and grandfather (fondly known as “Ba”) of Jeffrey M. Methven and his wife Amy of Rochester NY, Jonathan C. Methven of NYC, Julianna F. Methven of Geneva NY and Megan I. Methven of Corning NY. Great grandfather of Aubrie L. Methven of Rochester NY. He is also survived by a niece and several nephews as well as his beloved dog “Nikki”. A memorial service will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Wednesday June 30 at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow with military honors at Highland Cemetery in Dover. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jims name to the Hospice Unit, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, 5000 W. Chambers St. Milwaukee WI 53210 or to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, 300 Massachusetts Boston MA 02115.
