George L. Jackson, 84

George L. Jackson, age 84, of Norton, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
He was the beloved husband of the late Janet E. (Cooper) Jackson to whom he was wed for 47 years at the time of her death on June 24, 1995.
Born in Rehoboth, MA on August 15, 1928, he was a dear son of the late Henry and Margaret (Lee) Jackson.
George grew up in Attleboro and was a 1946 graduate of Attleboro High School. During WWII he served as a member of the Army National Guard and had made his home in Norton for the past 64 years.
Prior to retiring in 1990, Mr. Jackson had been employed as a rolling mill operator at Leach and Garner in Attleboro. He had previously worked for 14 years at Bliss Brothers Dairy in Attleboro and as an office manager at the Norfolk News.
A former Scout Master for Troop 24 in Norton, George enjoyed bowling in leagues at North Bowl. He was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to classical and Broadway musicals and music from the “big band era”
Mr. Jackson loved the great outdoors, especially mountain climbing, canoeing, gardening and bicycling. His favorite times spent were those with family, which included camping trips throughout the Northeast and was eagerly anticipating the birth of his ninth great grandchild.
He is survived by his devoted children, Sandra L. Jackson of Attleboro, Kay F. Brough and her husband Robert of Florida, G. Raymond Jackson and his wife Donna of Norton, Dianne L. Johnson and her husband Mason of Alabama, Gary A. Jackson of Norton and Lori A. Antosca of North Attleboro. The brother of Norma Holt of New Hampshire, Robert Jackson of New York, Ruth Closson of North Attleboro, and the late Harvey Jackson, he is also survived by his cherished 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, December 18th at 9:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 17th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, George’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Salvation Army, 281 Main St., Brockton, MA 02301.
