Obituary

Gabrielle G. Rousseau, age 104, of Salem, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Salem she was the daughter of the late Calixte and Luce (Ouellet) Rousseau. She was a graduate of Salem High School Class of 1926, and was a graduate of the former Hawthorne Institute of Salem. Gabe did secretarial work for Dalton Marsh and later for Vulcan Electric of Danvers. She worked in accounting for most of her life, until her retirement in 1972.

A kind, independent woman with a wonderful sense of humor as well as sense of duty, she was the former treasurer of the Salem Golden tones. A life long member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem, Gabe was the parish bookkeeper, as well as treasurer of the sodality, Congregation of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews including, Arthur Rousseau of California, Edward Rousseau of Michigan, Eva Curfman of New Hampshire, Rosemarie Hardin of Michigan, and Alice Andrews of Florida as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 8:45 AM at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Chapel, Federal St., Salem at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923.
