Obituary

Bertha Lee Danforth Lindsey of Tifton died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Fred Evers will officiate with burial to follow in Leila United Methodist Church Cemetery in Omega. Wayne Harper, Ronald Harper, Ray Woods, John W. Danforth Jr., Ken Kelly and Marvin Brooks will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Northside Baptist Church, her Starr Street neighbors, her nieces and nephews, Stuart Chandler and Carnell Poole. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 15, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Lindsey was born in Berrien County and was the daughter of Jesse Lee Danforth and Emma Bell Rogers Danforth, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one brother, John W. Danforth, Sr.; and two sisters, Louise Danforth Woods and Velma Danforth Kelly. She was a homemaker and had been a member of Northside Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was the mother of two and a mother-figure to many and she dearly loved her family.

Mrs. Lindsey is survived by her husband, John D. “J.D.” Lindsey of Tifton; one son, John H. Lindsey of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Emma Lindsey Skinner and her husband, Thomas of Sparks; one sister, Jewell Danforth Harper of Tifton; one brother-in-law, J.B. Woods of Tifton; three grandchildren, Floyd Thomas Skinner and his wife, Nathalie of Lawrenceville, Julie Skinner of Valdosta and John Patrick Lindsey of Tifton’ and one great-grandchild, Bernardita Lee Skinner of Lawrenceville.
