Obituary

Frederick Allen Tingley, 80, of Medway, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Alice M. (Shannon) Tingley for 55 years.

Born in Milford on December 10, 1932, he was the son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Small) Tingley.

Fred was a lifelong resident of Medway. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Milford and attended Boston College.

Fred worked for the N. E. Telephone Co. for many years and retired in 1990 as a manager. He served on the Medway Fire Department for 43 years retiring in 1998 as Captain.

Fred proudly served in the Army for two years during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Corporal. He was a past Commander of the Medway VFW Post 1526 and spent many years putting up and taking down flags displayed around town for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day observances and was a member of the Memorial Day Committee.

Fred served as election warden and opened and closed the polls for over 20 years. He was an original member of the Medway Christmas Parade Committee and had served as Grand Marshall.

Fred was also a member of the Medway Council On Aging and served for two years as Chairperson of the Council. He also served on Tri-Valley Elder Services Board of Directors for many years including the past five years on their executive committee and served on the Town of Medway Job Classification Review Board.

Fred managed a little league team and served as President of the league and also coached CYO basketball for many years. Fred enjoyed being a reader for many years in the Medway School System for grades 1-4 and was honored in 2005 as Citizen of the Year.

Besides his wife he is survived by four sons, Medway Police Chief Allen M. Tingley and his wife Charlene of Medway, Paul Tingley of Franklin and Timothy and Mark Tingley, both of Medway, a sister Mary Lou Staples of Medway and a brother Bob Tingley of Woburn.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Nichole, Bryon, Susan, Rebecca, Billy, Kyle and Hannah and five great-grandchildren, Madison, Molly, Ava, Michael and Lilliana.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday, December 17 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 - 6 p.m.
