BEVERLY - Robert L. Jackson, 70, of Beverly, husband of Eileen (Cassidy) Jackson, died Tuesday evening, December 11, 2012, following a short illness.
Born in Methuen on Oct. 11, 1942, he was the son of the late Harold and Mildred (Daly) Jackson. Bob lived in Salem and Peabody before settling in Beverly.
A Vietnam era Army veteran, he served with HQ Company with the 2nd Medium Tank Battalion of the 67th Armored Regiment, served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and attained the rank of Specialist 5th Class.
He worked for many years for Fox & Ginn trucking and retired as a letter carrier from the Beverly Post Office.
A longtime member of the Franco American Club and the Herman A. Spear Post 331, American Legion, both of Beverly. He enjoyed traveling and spent time at Old Orchard Beach, ME and working on many projects with his pal Joe Santos.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage, Bob is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. Jr., and Sue Jackson of Salem, William E. and Beth Jackson of Danvers, Brent A. Sr., and Debbie Jackson of Salem, 8 grandchildren, Kelli, Brendan, Stephanie, Brianna, Bryan, Brent, Madilyn and Olivia, 2 sisters, Genie Hughes and Judith Ames, both of Salem, 2 brothers, William and his wife Chieko Jackson, of Lynn, and Whitney and his wife Barbara Jackson of Derry, NH, 2 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law and their families. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends, the Langlois and Gilbert families.
His funeral service will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Visiting hours are Friday, 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
