Obituary

Clayborn Edward Heard, age 82, of Prosser, entered into rest on December 8, 2012 at Prosser Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 6, 1930 in Marshfield, Oregon. He was raised and educated in the Tri-cities and Prosser and attended Prosser High School. In 1947, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy and served for twenty-four years and then six years in the Naval Reserves. Ed was a Veteran of three wars; the occupation of Japan during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In 1951, Ed and Ethel Edith Rice were married in San Diego and the couple made their home in Prosser in 1970 where Ed owned and operated Heard’s Upholstery.

Ed was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3207 in Prosser for many years. He was currently Vice Commander of the Lower Valley Honor Guard, providing Military Funerals for Veterans. He was also a member of the American Legion for twenty years and the Prosser Eagles Lodge. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Ed is survived by his wife, Ethel Edith Heard of Prosser; his son, Eddie Heard and his wife, Catherine of Prosser daughter, Edith Kirkpatrick and her husband, Gary of Missouri; and son, Francis Cary of Kennewick; five grandchildren, Michelle Yeary of Missouri, Robert Heard and wife, Ammie of Kennewick, Alice Perkins and husband, Scott of Prosser, Susan Yeary of Missouri and Sarah Heard of Yakima; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nel Black.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Prosser Cemetery. Full Military Honors and a Time of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 15th at the Prosser Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3207. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prosser VFW.
