Ruth C. "Gram" (Thorpe) Andrea, a longtime resident of Charlestown, passed into eternal life on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at her home in Charlestown after an extended illness. She was 94 years old.
Ruth was born in Boston on August 17, 1918, a daughter of the late Percival Thorpe and Ethel (Pratt) Thorpe. She grew up in Marblehead where she attended school there and graduated from Marblehead High School while being a Nanny for a family in Marblehead. Ruth worked as a bookeeper for Marriot Hotels for several years in the Boston area. Ruth took special pride in preparing meals for the pastor at St. Francis De Sales Church.
Ruth is the beloved wife of the late Michael F. Andrea. She is the devoted mother of Mary McKenna of Port Richey, FL., Carol Walsh of Charlestown and the late Manuel Andrea and Louise Becker. She is the loving Gram to 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Mildred Gallagher of Charlestown and the late Edna Fournier and Frances Ringer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth's Funeral on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
