Obituary

Sandra Helen Lacey of Arlington, known to friends and family as “Sandy,” passed away peacefully on November 16, 2012, following an extraordinary and brave 12-year battle with breast cancer. She was 48.

Sandy was born January 23, 1964 in Medford, MA to Beverly Helen Lawson and the late David H. Lacey. She was raised in Reading and graduated from Reading Memorial High School in 1982. Sandy excelled at Salem State College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in cartography and art. She managed the graphics department at Wallace, Floyd, Associates from 1987-1993, then joined Harvard University Planning Office and spent the next 18 years building her career as an art director. Over the years, she developed a passion for interior design/decor, which she applied in her home and at work. She was well respected and a joy to work with.

Sandy was athletic and always on the move, enjoying a wide range of activities including rollerblading, yoga, ultimate frisbee and dance classes. She loved to travel, with recent trips to Switzerland, France, Italy, and St. Barth’s. Sandy indulged her free spirit by pursuing a variety of alternative spiritual paths and treatment modalities, and had a remarkable personal style which will never be forgotten. She cared deeply for those she loved, including her 8-year-old rabbit, Rumi, and brightened the lives of her friends and family with her infectious laughter and positive nature.

Sandy is survived by her loving mother Beverly Lawson and her husband Steven Lawson of Derry, NH; siblings Kenneth Lacey and his wife Donna of Londonderry, NH, Jessica Lacey of Reading and Evan Lacey of Salem, along with their mother Colleen (Fitzgerald) Lacey; step brother Sean Lawson of North Reading; nephews Tyler Lacey, Ryan Lacey and niece Aliceyn Lacey; as well as dear friends Aimee Smith of Boston, Mark Regnier of Attleboro and Darlene Foley of Peabody. Sandy’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her many close friends and confidantes, of whom there are too many to name.
