TEWKSBURY - Wayne P. Fleury, age 48, a popular member of a large well known family of musicians, died unexpectedly Friday morning, December 7, at the Lowell General Hospital, after being diagnosed with Colon Cancer less than three weeks ago. He was the beloved husband of Laura A. (Lombardo) Fleury, with whom he had celebrated a 22nd wedding anniversary this past November 17th.
He was born in Lowell, August 23, 1964, one of four children of Henry “Hank” Fleury of Haverhill, and the late Patricia (Sheehan) Fleury. He was a lifelong resident of Tewksbury. He attended Tewksbury schools, and graduated from Shawsheen Valley Technical Vocational High School with the Class of 1982.
He was a loving husband and a “stay at home father,” who took on jobs on weekends and nights to be with his beloved sons as they grew. He was a driver for Tewksbury Transit, and a carpenter. He worked evenings as “Disc Jockey Wayne,” as recently as three weeks ago, playing to a full house at the Tewksbury K of C’s “50’s Night” benefit.
His father said “he was born with a guitar in his hand,” a trait he shared with a number of the Fleury family members.
He was active at the Fr. Coppen’s Council Knights of Columbus, 4336, in Tewksbury where he was currently the Treasurer and had served as Grand Knight in the 2010 to 2011 years.
He will be remembered as a hard working, benevolent, kind and understanding person, ready to help those in need, and ready to entertain to bring joy into the hearts, and a smile on the face, of everyone he met.
Besides his beloved wife and father, he leaves his two sons, Bryan H. and Kyle W. Fleury of Tewksbury; two sisters, Debra Surette and her husband James of Hudson, NH, Nancy Fleury of Lowell; a brother, Marc D. Fleury and his wife Holly of Dracut; many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and friends throughout the Merrimac Valley.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, December 12, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Wayne P. Fleury Memorial Fund, c/o Lowell Five Bank, 1775 Main St. Tewksbury, MA 018765 will be appreciated.
