Obituary

Gertrude Rose (Crewe)

Gertrude (Rudie) passed away on December 3, 2012. Born on June 3, 1925, she was 87 years old. She is predeceased by her wonderful parents, Charles and Gertrude Crewe. They gave Gertrude and her siblings a wholesome and enriching home life in Sandyville, a small coastal fishing village in Newfoundland, Canada. Gertrude grew up with her loving family growing all their own vegetables, doing their own berry picking, tending to their cows, horse, sheep and hens. As a child, she would go out with her dad to help him pull up lobster pots and salmon nets. She would also take a small homemade sled led by a horse and load it up with birch wood. They would saw it, store it and have birch wood burning in their hall stove to keep them warm and cozy all winter long. What wonderful childhood memories she always held close in her heart.

Gertrude is predeceased by her husband, Guy Rose, whom she married in 1950 when she came to Boston. Devoted mother to Gloria Rose Godfrey of Wisconsin, Douglas and Barbara of Dorchester and Stephen of Quincy. Adoring and sweet grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Pre-deceased by 3 sons, Bobby, Max and Richie. Sister of Douglas Crewe and his wife, Ada of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Sister-in-law of Phil Saunders of Newfoundland and Barbara Rose of Weymouth. Predeceased by two loving sisters, Molly and Melita.

Gertrude was loved by all for being so kind and good in the most humble of ways. Her simple and heartfelt acts of thoughtfulness will never be forgotten by anyone who knew her. She will always be remembered for being an angel on earth.

If desired, donations can be made in her memory to the Salvation Army, Red Kettle Fund, 25 Shawmut Avenue, Canton, MA 02021
