Barbara Jean Kanerva, R.N., 78, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2012 at Kaplan Family Hospice House.
Born in Danvers on Jan. 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Laurence and Irene (Ouimette) Kanerva. She was raised and educated in Danvers and graduated from Holten High School in 1952. Barbara graduated from Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for a short period at Salem Hospital before working at the former Hunt Memorial Hospital in Danvers for many years. She was a member of the Salem Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Assoc., VASA Order of America Birka Lodge in So. Hamilton and the Danvers Historical Society She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, sailing and loved pets.
She is survived by many cousins and friends.
Her Funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 8AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Wed. at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem MA 01970
