Mary Helen Birnie Head, 88, of Clarksville, TN, died on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at her residence. She was born on August 24, 1924 in Louisa, Kentucky to the late Earl Raymond Birnie and Laura Esther Ash Birnie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Allen W. Head, Sr. (Beanie), brother, Frank Birnie and two sisters, Anita McGrath and Eleanor Ford.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev. Jamie Mandrell officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 12 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mary Helen graduated from Owensboro High School in 1941 and attended the Bowling Green Business College. After marrying Beanie, she became a full time army wife. They were stationed in Indiana, Michigan, Texas, Turkey, Colorado, and Spain. After retiring from the army, they returned to Owensboro, KY, where she worked at the Owensboro National Bank. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in Owensboro, KY.
She is survived by her son, Allen Head (Janet) of Clarksville, TN; sister, Evelyn Merlow of Clarksville, TN; two grandchildren, Andrew Head (Erica) and Caroline Storer (Jon); and a great grandson, Braden Ussery.
