Pauline “Polixeni” (Bistas) Vangos, 83, of Worcester passed away Sunday, December 2nd surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Donatos Vangos; two sons, Christos D. Vangos and his partner, Stephanie Giddens, of Worcester and Angelo D. Vangos of Charlton; two daughters, Maria D. Brann and her husband, Daniel of Mashpee and Georgia D. Loukas and her husband, Spiros of Vancouver, B.C.; a brother, Pashalis Balaskas of Worcester; her sister, Frederiki Tzoumas and her husband, Petros of Athens, Greece; eight grandchildren, Cecily Brann-Eurenius and her husband, Scott, Evan Brann, Yiana and Ross Loukas, Stacey and the late Joseph Vangos, Kaylen, William and Daniel Vangos; two great-grandchildren, Jaedyn Eurenius and Stasia Brann and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother Christos Bistas.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Vasilios and Anastasia (Gogos) Bistas. She grew up in Greece, returning to Worcester after her marriage at the age of 24. She worked at Table Talk Pies, then Polixeni and Donatos owned and operated Vernon Pizza for over 40 years. She was an active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Seniors Group, the Ladies Philoptochos and the Daughters of Penelope. She was also a past member of the Pan Epirotic Society. Polixeni helped many people and touched many lives with her caring and compassionate nature.
Her funeral is Thursday, December 6th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 11:30 a.m. in St. Spyridon Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 5th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
