Obituary

FRAMINGHAM: Marie A. (Callahan) Rooney, 88, died on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham.
She was born in Waltham on December 9, 1923 the daughter of the late Thomas J. Callahan and Mary (Brannelly) Callahan.
Mrs. Rooney was the devoted wife for 57 years of the late Alfred Aloysius Rooney who died on March 7, 2006.
She was the loving mother of Philip Rooney and his wife Patricia of Framingham; Maureen Rooney of Natick; Barbara Connery and her husband Walter of Framingham and Deborah Matthews and her husband William of Rochester, Vermont. Beloved grandmother of Cara Troup and her husband Nate of Arlington, VA; Conor Rooney of Washington, D.C.; Greg Swartzwelder of Altoona, PA; Diane O’Connor and her husband Danny of Sugarland, TX and Jessica Matthews of Menlo Park, CA. Cherished great-grandmother of Catherine Swartzwelder and Liam O’Connor. Also survived by her sister Madeline Callahan of Waltham and many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Kevin Rooney who died in 1995. Sister of the late Margaret Anderson; Ruth Shaw; Mildred Mannix; Thomas Callahan and Rita Callahan.
Marie spent her formative years in Waltham and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She has resided in Framingham for over 58 years. In her earlier years, she remained in her home and raised her four children and later entered the workforce as a bookkeeper for John Hancock of Framingham and also with Holmes Transportation in the account receivable department. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed listening to music and always found time to keep in constant contact with her family and friends. She especially cherished the time spent with family and will be greatly missed by all of the lives that she touched.
Visitations will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Saint George’s Church, 80 School Street, (Saxonville) Framingham.
Interment will take place on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Bourne National Cemetery.
