New Bedford – Conceicao Tavares, age 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Manuel Tavares. Mrs. Tavares was the loving mother of Jose Tavares of New Bedford, Maria Pires of New Bedford, John Tavares of Salem, CT. and Aida Teixeira of Somerville, MA. Conceicao was the sister of Maria Lepore of Florida, Maria Azeredo and Merces Barbosa both of Somerville, MA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tavares was the daughter of the late Rosa (Fernandes) and the late Joao Mendes. She was born in Sao Miguel, Azores and moved to New Bedford in 1968. Conceicao worked as a dress maker at Gowns by Priscilla in Charlestown, MA.
Mrs. Tavares’ Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Everyone is invited to meet at Church. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are by Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. Visiting hours are omitted.
