Thomas D. O’Brien Jr, age 55, passed away on November 29, 2012 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 15, 1957 in Springfield, a son of Thomas D. O’Brien Sr., of Chicopee and the late Jane A. (Michon) O’Brien, who passed away in 2007. Thomas was a communicant of the former St Patrick’s Church and more recently of St Ann’s Church. He was a graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School and attended Holyoke Community College. He worked as a shift leader in charge of production for Goodwill Industries in Springfield. He was a former member of the Chicopee Moose Lodge Family Center, #1849 and a former member of the Chicopee Tigers Athletic Club where he was a coach of many youth sport teams. Tommy "O'Bie" was known for his kindness, generosity and deep loving heart. He leaves his son Thomas P. O’Brien of Chicopee; his brother Michael O’Brien and his wife Caren of Mason, NH; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Stebbins and her husband Dennis of Chicopee, Mary Prouty and her husband Robert of Chicopee and Veronica Uzar and her husband Ralph of Amherst, NH. He also leaves his adoring nieces, nephews, many loving lifelong friends and his adopted cat Chochi. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in St Ann’s Church, 30 College St, Chicopee, MA followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
